Dubna Collects Childhood Memories
On July 21, meetings began in Dubna, near Moscow, with local residents sharing memories of childhood. People were invited to talk about school, friends, courtyard games and summer holidays on the Volga. The organizers will create a “living archive” of the city from these stories.
The Childhood in Dubna project is taking place during the Archival Impulse summer school. It is organized by the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research and HSE University. The school runs from July 19 to 25. Its participants include students, historians, sociologists and ethnographers.
The meetings were divided by decade. On July 21, people attended whose childhood was in the mid-1950s and the 1960s. In the following days, younger generations will share their stories, through those who grew up in the 1990s. Residents can write to the organizers if they cannot attend in person.
The archive is also accepting childhood photographs, old letters and diary pages.
