Soyuz Crew Begins Work on the ISS
On July 14, the Russian Soyuz MS-29 spacecraft delivered a new crew to the International Space Station. On board were cosmonauts Pyotr Dubrov and Anna Kikina, as well as NASA astronaut Anil Menon. Three hours later, the spacecraft docked with the Prichal module.
During his first days, Menon familiarized himself with the station’s systems and equipment. All three crew members checked the emergency equipment. Kikina grew cell samples to learn how microbes adapt to weightlessness. Meanwhile, Dubrov unloaded the spacecraft.
The crew will spend approximately eight months in orbit and take part in Expeditions 74 and 75. Menon will conduct scientific research and test new technologies. This work could help future space missions and people on Earth.
The mission continues cooperation between Russia and the United States on the ISS. Relations between the countries remain tense following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. However, specialists from different countries continue to work together and conduct science aboard the station.
