Historic Building Demolished at Moscow’s Elektrozavod Complex
The dismantling of part of the historic buildings at Elektrozavod, a large factory complex, is continuing in Moscow. Building 10, on 2nd Elektrozavodsky Lane, has already been completely demolished. Workers are now dismantling Building 11 near Preobrazhenskaya Embankment.
Elektrozavod is one of the capital’s major surviving industrial-architecture complexes. Until 2025, it had the status of an identified cultural-heritage site. The complex then lost this protected status because of a change in the law.
Etalon Group, which owns the site, plans to build a residential complex there. The company says it wants to preserve as many original elements and recognizable facades as possible. However, the final plan is not ready yet. It is therefore unclear which parts of the factory will remain original and which may be replaced with replicas.
More than 19,000 people have signed a petition to Moscow’s mayor calling for the historic buildings to be preserved. Heritage defenders and local residents support it.
